Here is everything you need to know about the new Amazon Fire HD 10 that won’t put a dent in your pocket!

Amazon always comes out with affordable tablets. They are not necessarily high-end products or state of the art but they are more than good enough for the average user.

If you are looking to just use the tablet as a kindle reader or stream prime video or Netflix or have a basic use such as taking notes or web browsing then you will be satisfied with this tablet.

There will always be stuff that will satisfy you or leave you dissatisfied and we will delve into those things later, but what you cannot take away from Amazon is their willingness to make affordable tablets. They include every type of configuration and it may not be of the highest quality but they just about do their jobs.

The tablet is super affordable but it is also very basic and generic when it comes to using it. If you have been using a premium tablet before, you will definitely feel a difference in performance.

On other hand, if it is your first tablet or you exclusively use Fire/Amazon tabs then it will be a perfectly fine tablet for you.

Who Is This Device For?

Following are the categories this device is tailor-made for:

For Movie Buffs and Streamers

With its 10.1 inch display and good pixel rate, it is a very good tablet for streamers and movie watchers. The solid battery life complements really well with the big display.

Amazon has also provided a headphone jack with the tablet so you can easily connect your headphones for private use or connect the tablet with a Bluetooth device.

For Kids

With a good 10.1 inch screen and a decent display, Amazon Fire HD 10 plus is perfect for kids. Especially during the pandemic when online classes have become a norm.

Not only that, Fire HD offers a Kids mode where the parents can control the content they want their kids to see. You can also control the screen time that you want to allow for your kids.

Overall, it is a fantastic kid-friendly device that is easy to control and use. It is pretty much tailor-made for the kids.

For Reading

Absolutely perfect tablet for someone who likes to read books. Installing a Kindle is the basic thing you can do to read things, but now with Alexa, you can use the audible to listen to your favorite books.

On top of that, you get a really good battery life and a 10.1-inch screen which is a quality size for reading stuff.

For Travel Lover and Vloggers

At 1.03 lb, the Amazon Fire HD 10 is not the heaviest of tabs. Hence it can easily be moved around with you.

Just put it in the backpack or its case and it is ready to go. It won’t take up much space so you can travel around without having to worry about where to put the tab.

The strong battery life is another reason for it being a good traveling tab.

Features of the Amazon Fire HD 10

Battery Life:8.5

Amazon offers a single-size display for its users. The 10.1-inch display is available for both Amazon Fire HD 10 and Fire HD 10 Plus. Amazon Fire HD 10 is also the only Fire tablet to reach HD status.

With the screen resolution set at 1920 x 1200, it equates to 2.3 million pixels. You only need 2.0 million pixels to reach HD status.

The HD screen is helpful when streaming high-quality streaming apps such as Amazon Prime, Netflix, Disney + et al. The long battery life is a good supplement for a good display. You can stream content for hours and hours.

There are more pros than cons when it comes to the new HD display deployed by Amazon and it is a welcome addition to the new tab.

Amazon offers two storage options: 32GB and 64GB. Storage as a whole is sufficient when you consider that you can expand storage up to 1TB via a MicroSD card.

It feels good that you do have an option to expand storage because the base storage options are frankly not good enough on their own.

Some apps may require that they be installed in internal storage, while app updates or features may impact the storage as a whole.

In the 32GB variant, the user gets 24.2GB available to use, while in the 64GB variant, the user gets 55.0GB available to use.

Amazon Fire HD 10 has a noticeable improvement on its predecessors. The Oca-core themselves are a major improvement on previous models. The Amazon Fire HD 10 provides 8 cores.

While the processor is not lightning fast, it does reduce the lag that was noticeable in the previous Fire models.

There is still lag when switching between apps or switching between regular mode to show mode, but the speed is still more than adequate for streaming the entertainment system as it is still a glorified entertainment device.

Amazon has used the same aesthetic as the Fire HD 8 model. Both the models –  Amazon Fire HD 10 and Amazon Fire HD 10 Plus have the same design.

The edges and corners of the tablet are well rounded off. The camera is placed centrally when the tab is placed horizontally. When used with the keyboard and as a laptop, the volume buttons are placed on the right side of the device.

The headphone jack is always welcome when it comes to tablets and Amazon has provided that.

Amazon Fire HD 10 model comes in four different colors, namely black, denim, lavender, and olive.

The keyboard that comes with the tablet works as a protective cover as well. While the keyboard is a bit crampy, it is good to see Amazon giving away a $50 keyboard with the device.

Amazon Fire HD 10 is equipped with 2 stereo speakers. They are nothing special but they still do a very commendable job. The voice clarity comes out clear and the surround sound is admirable. The bass is good enough as well.

If you’re buying the Amazon Fire HD 10 for its camera or recording purpose then you are buying the wrong tablet. The camera on this device is very standard. They will do the job but the quality isn’t state of the art.

The Amazon Fire HD 10 is equipped with a 5MP main camera and 720p HD video recording, while the selfie camera is 2MP and 720p HD video recording. It has a very basic camera, but one which will fetch you a standard picture when urgently required.

Battery Life

Immense. The Amazon Fire HD 10 has strong battery life. Amazon has claimed that the device can run up to 12 hours of streaming and browsing.

While the battery does not exactly last 12 hours after being tested, it still came out at more than 10 hours of streaming and browsing which is highly impressive.

The battery is non-removable which is kinda bummer but that is the trend nowadays so that shouldn’t be much of a problem. Both the keyboard and the tablet take 4 hours to fully charge.

Amazon Fire HD 10 has a Bluetooth 5.0, A2DP,LE connectivity and Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, dual-band. The device also doesn’t have cellular connectivity and it runs on a Wi-Fi connection.

Lightweight. Good battery life. Easy to carry. Safe to say that portability won’t be an issue with the Amazon Fire HD 10.

What’s Inside the Box?

Amazon has been generous enough to include a detachable keyboard with the tablet, but let’s look at the other things included in the box.

  • Amazon Fire HD 10
  • Keyboard
  • 9w charging brick
  • A user manual

And that’s about it.

Amazon Fire HD 8 Plus vs Amazon Fire HD 10/10 Plus

Both are quality devices. Amazon Fire HD 10 though is a little bit better in everything. While the Amazon Fire HD 8 is a real value for money tablet, we will still recommend the Amazon Fire HD 10 plus tablet.

The reason being you cannot look beyond a quality product. When you are ready to spend your hard-earned cash then why not spend it on quality and an improved product!

Before checking out the differences let us take a look at things that are similar in both the tablets:

Amazon Fire HD 10 Plus vs iPad (10.2-inch) 2020

It is always good to have an alternative if your first choice doesn’t justify your needs or expectations. It is especially true when it comes to electronic devices such as tablets.

As good as Amazon Fire HD 10 Plus is and how pocket-friendly the device is if budget isn’t a problem and you want something similar but in a premium section, then Apple iPad (10.2-inch) 2020 model is the closest you can get to the Fire HD 10 Plus.

While the difference in screen size and hardware isn’t that much, there is a stark contrast in the software and the overall quality of the two tabs.

Which has a better screen?

When it comes to dimensions and screen display there isn’t much difference between the devices.

Amazon Fire HD 10 Plus has a 10.1 inches display with 1900 x 1200 pixels and dimensions are 247 x 166 x 9.2 mm (9.72 x 6.54 x 0.36 in), while the Apple iPad (2020) has a 10.2 inches display with 1620 x 2160 pixels and dimensions are 250.6 x 174.1 x 7.5 mm (9.87 x 6.85 x 0.30 in).

The screen size and hardware aren’t that much different between the devices but it’s the pixels where the iPad trumps the Amazon tab. The viewing experience and display are much clearer on the iPad.

So when it comes to comparison, the iPad has a better screen overall than Amazon Fire HD 10 Plus.

Which has better performance?

There is no competition here. The iPad wins the competition by a landslide. Apple’s own A12 Bionic chip is super effective and fast. Amazon Fire HD 10 Plus lags behind with its Android 9.0(pie) and Octa-core 8.

The other downside of Amazon Fire HD 10 Plus is the lag that it experiences when switching tabs or modes. There are no such issues with the Apple iPad.

Which device is better for gaming?

Both tablets are good for gaming. There is no one-upmanship in this genre. Both have good displays, battery life, and similar play stores. The only difference might be Apple’s superior chipset but then again Amazon Fire HD 10 Plus works just fine while gaming.

Which has a better camera?

Apple iPad (2020) hands down. It is just simply superior and there are no two ways about it.

While the Amazon Fire HD 10 Plus is equipped with a standard 2MP main and selfie camera and 720p HD video recording, the iPad is equipped with an 8 MP, f/2.4, AF main camera with 1080p@30fps, 720p@120fps, HDR video recording, and 1.2 MP, f/2.2, 31mm (standard) with 720p@30fps video recording.

There is a big difference between the quality of photos that both the devices procure. The iPad has a far superior quality in that regard.

Verdict after testing both the devices

Apple will generally win every battle against any competitor, but this wasn’t about how superior the Apple iPad is. Instead, it is about how close the Amazon Fire HD 10 Plus runs beside the Apple iPad.

While Apple does have superior quality, Amazon offers close to that quality albeit with much budget-friendly pricing.

If you have a high-end budget then Apple is the obvious choice, but if your budget is on the mid-size then Amazon Fire HD 10 Plus is as good a tablet as you can buy.

How To Install Google Play Store On Your Amazon Fire HD  10 Plus Tablet?

Let’s get straight into it. What you have to do first is to go to the settings, select security & privacy, in that select apps from unknown sources and in that turn on the silk browser. That way you won’t be stopped from downloading.

  • Select the silk browser and type along the lines of “how to install google play store”, from there you will get multiple links to download the play store.
  • Go to the link and you will first be asked to download Google manager, download the apk link. After that, you have to download the Google services framework, again download the apk link which is given inside.
  • Go to the Google Play services and download its apk link
  • Finally, then go to the Google Play store option and download its apk link. You will have downloaded all the given links by now.
  • After downloading all the links, go to the Utility folder on the main screen, go to your docs, then to your local storage inside it.
  • Inside the local storage, you will find all the four downloaded links, on which you will have to click and install all the links onto your tablet via the Google account manager and viola!

Google play store is safely installed and ready to use on your Amazon Fire HD 10 Plus.

Final Verdict

Amazon has included almost everything in this budget-friendly device. They have made a real effort to pack as much as they can in the Fire tablet.

From an impressive display to strong battery life, giving away a keyboard with the tablet is generous and laudable. Amazon Fire HD 10 Plus is a seriously great alternative to the premium tablets which have a much higher price range.

Not only that, Amazon Fire HD Plus 10 goes into three modes from a standard tablet to an Echo show mode and also into Kids mode with ease.

For only $150, it is worth punting on this Amazon device, isn’t it, eh?
