  • Display

The Lenovo Tab M7 3rd Gen has a 7-inch display with a 76.5% screen-to-body ratio and 600 x 1024 pixels resolution with a 16:9 ratio(170 ppi density). The tablet has been manufactured in such a way that it looks and feels compact. While the 7-inch display is not among the biggest reasons to buy, it certainly is suitable for kids and reading.

The display isn’t meant for doing the heavy lifting. It is an ordinary display that will do the basic job of playing videos or as a stable host for reading books.

  • Storage

There is a 32GB 2GB RAM storage provision given by Lenovo in the Tab M7 3rd Gen. There is just one option and although the storage doesn’t seem much, for a 7 inch compact tablet it is sufficient as the storage will only be used for basic activities. There is a dedicated microSDHC slot given in the tab.

  • Performance

It is both the strongest and the weakest feature of the Lenovo Tab M7 3rd Gen. The device is equipped with Android 11(Go edition). It has a Mediatek MT8166(Wi-Fi version) and Mediatek MT8776(LTE version) chipset. Octa-core 2.0 GHz CPU is installed in the tab.

While you get all the latest apps on the Android 11(Go version), you will end up getting lags when switching from apps to apps due to its average CPU. Heavy games such as clash of clans and Call of Duty might not even start. All you can do is operate the basic apps and leave the heavy apps for your phone or premium tablets.

  • Design

The Lenovo Tab M7 3rd Gen has a 176.2 x 102.3 x 8.3 mm (6.94 x 4.03 x 0.33 in) dimension, has a glass front and aluminum frame and back. With a naked eye you would think it is a Kindle, it has almost the same design.

The tab weighs 0.52 lbs(237 g) which is pretty lightweight but the overall build of the device is very sturdy. The tab is functional with a nano-sim. There is only one color option available with the tab and that is Iron Grey.

  • Camera

The Lenovo Tab M7 3rd Gen is equipped with 2 cameras. The main camera is 2MP with video recording at 720p and the selfie camera which is also 2MP and video recording at 720p as well. It is a very forgetful feature of the tab. Very substandard camera overall.

Long story short, you are not buying this tablet for its camera feature.

  • Battery Life

The Lenovo Tab M7 3rd Gen is powered by a Li-Po 3750 mAh, non-removable battery. For a compact-sized tablet, Lenovo couldn’t have done anything more. For a 7 inch tablet, 3750 mAh is probably okayish.

  • Connectivity

The Lenovo Tab M7 3rd Gen has a Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, dual-band, Wi-Fi Direct, and hotspot. It has a Bluetooth 5.0, A2DP, Le feature as well. You also get a GPS function in the tab. There is also an FM Radio feature included in the device.

You get a basic micro USB 2.0 port in the device which is disappointing considering USB 2.0 is now a thing of the past.

  • Portability

The strongest suit of the Lenovo Tab M7 3rd Gen. Portability is the biggest strength of the tab. It weighs only 0.52 lbs(237 g) and with a 7-inch display it can fit in anywhere you want. Travel all around without having to think about where to set the Lenovo Tab M7 3rd Gen. It can even fit in your overcoat pocket or purse or backpacks easily.

Lenovo Tab M7 3rd Gen vs Amazon Fire HD 8

Comparing a tablet with its predecessors is one thing but more importantly, it should be compared with other companies’ products to get a better and clear perspective of what you want to buy. The Lenovo Tab M7 3rd Gen and the Amazon Fire HD 8 are two of the most similar tabs of a rival company you will ever find.

While not exactly similar, the two tablets are marginally better than one another in various different features. It is really tough to differentiate between the two tabs. A little detailed viewing is required and that is exactly what we will do right now. Let’s take a detailed look at the two tabs and see how they are similar and different at the same time.

Which has a better display?

The Lenovo Tab M7 3rd Gen has a 7 inch display with 76.5%(screen-to-body ratio) and 600 x 1024 pixels, 16:9 ratio(170 ppi density). The Amazon Fire HD 8  has a 8 inch display with 67.1% (screen-to-body ratio) and 800 x 1280 pixels resolution, 16:10 ratio(180 ppi density). Amazon Fire HD 8 clearly has a better display than the Lenovo Tab. But the screen-to-body ratio is an important aspect when you buy a tablet and Amazon’s paltry 67.1% ratio is poor and when you turn on the tab it really sticks out.

The Pixels resolution and screen display are obviously better for Amazon, but if you like a better screen-to-body ratio then Lenovo’s pixel resolution and screen display are not that far behind, plus Lenovo has a far better screen-to-body ratio.

Which has the better processor?

The Lenovo Tab M7 3rd Gen is equipped with Android 11(Go edition) OS, MT8776(LTE version), and Mediatek MT8166(Wi-Fi version) chipset, Octa-core 2.0 GHz CPU. Amazon Fire HD 8 is equipped with Android 9(Pie), Fire OS 7. It has a Mediatek MT8168(12 nm) chipset and Quad-Core 2.0 GHz CPU.

Lenovo Tab M7 3rd Gen is clearly superior in terms of processor. It performs better overall than the Amazon Fire tab and as expected because it is the more latest model in the market it has a recent Operating System.

Which has the better camera?

This is a feature where nothing separates the two tabs. Lenovo Tab M7 3rd Gen has a 2MP main camera with 720p video recording and a 2MP selfie camera with 720p video recording. Amazon Fire HD 8 also has a 2MP main camera with 720p video recording and a 2MP selfie camera with 720p video recording.

There is nothing to separate the two here. Both have the exact same cameras with exact same functions. Safe to say you won’t be making your decision to buy a tablet-based on the camera feature as they both are similar.

Verdict after testing both the devices

Lenovo Tab M7 3rd Gen should be the choice you should be making based on the features of both tabs. It is a recency bias but Lenovo 3rd Gen does offer the latest operating system as well as every other quality almost as similar as the Amazon Fire HD 8.

One difference that we haven’t pointed out is the pricing of the two tabs. Lenovo Tab M7 3rd Gen is priced at $138 and the Amazon Fire HD 8  is priced at $93. While the pricing of the Amazon tab is tempting for a basic tablet, a few more dollars would buy you the latest and a bit more sophisticated Lenovo Tab M7 3rd Gen tab. Pricing can sometimes distract you from a product’s quality and it applies here too. If you are going for a cheap tablet then Lenovo should be the obvious choice because of its superiority in the software department.

Final Verdict

For $89 Lenovo Tab M7 3rd Gen should be a solid acquisition. It is not built for heavy or premium usage but it is a perfect kids tab or a traveling tab. You get all the latest apps from the Google play store as well as Youtube Kids through the Google Kids Space and keep your kids busy and entertained or use the tab as a Kindle to read books or better use it as a navigation machine in your car.

If you are looking for a cheap tablet that will do your basic daily chores for you then Lenovo Tab M7 3rd Gen is recommended. It is also a definite upgrade from its predecessors and the improvement is there to be seen.
