Buying a tablet that was released in 2020 in 2023 might seem crazy, but it has a great price, and it has some great use cases.

  • For Movie Lovers

The 8.4-inch display, smooth pixels, and super AMOLED display give a quality video-watching experience in the Samsung Galaxy Tab A 8.4. The almost 81% body-to-screen ratio gives you almost the full-screen display.

The long battery life is also an important factor. You wouldn’t have to plug in the charger all the time when watching movies or videos. One charge is good enough for you to watch movies the whole day. Overall it’s a good device for people that enjoy movies on small screens

  • For Travellers

The sturdy design, lightweight feature, and the ability to easily fit in any bag, purse, or backpack make it a really compatible option for travel lovers. The long-lasting battery life is also an important factor for travelers as you can, with one full charge, use the tablet for a full day.

  • For Reading

The Samsung Galaxy Tab A 8.4 is a good fit for readers. The display, battery life, and processor will enhance the reading experience. Download any reading or book app on the device, and it is ready to go in an instant. The reading apps run smoothly on the tab.

Features of the Samsung Galaxy Tab A 8.4

Battery Life:7
  • Display

The Samsung Galaxy Tab A 8.4 is equipped with an 8.4” inch display with 1200 * 1920 pixels(270 ppi density). It has a super AMOLED display and gives a cool 80.1% screen-to-body ratio. The full-screen display is one of the tablet’s main strengths and gives a smooth viewing experience overall.

The crystal clear display alongside the dual speakers gives major movie-going vibes. The resolution is probably the best part about the display and it is evident when you use the tab.

  • Storage

The Galaxy Tab A 8.4 offers 32GB 3GB RAM. There is a dedicated slot for microSDXC and the memory storage is expandable up to 512GB. While the 32GB pre-given storage is average, the 512GB expandable storage does help a bit. We found the storage in the device underwhelming.

If you are not a heavy user then 512GB might be sufficient for you but if you are a daily user then there are cheaper tablets that offer expandable memory up to 1TB.

  • Performance

The Samsung Galaxy Tab A 8.4 comes equipped with an Android 10, One UI 3.1 OS which will upgrade to Android 11 with an update. The CPU is Octa-core 1.8 GHz. The performance is very decent and functions pretty well overall. The multi-window option in Samsung is always its strong point as well as the Multi-user option.

There is little to no lag when switching between tabs and apps in the device, while the overall experience of using different apps is smooth. There are no performance issues. It might though overheat if the load is overbearing with multiple apps and windows.

  • Design

The Samsung Galaxy Tab A 8.4 has a compact, sleek design. The design of the tab is slim and it looks slim to the naked eyes. The design overall is a standard Samsung model. They have kept the design as their tried and tested design.

The device isn’t extraordinary, it still has a pretty good-looking standard design. The Galaxy Tab A 8.4 comes in just one color – Mocha.

  • Camera

A very workable camera that Samsung has installed in the Galaxy Tab A 8.4. Nothing fancy but two standard cameras. One main camera which is 8 MP and comes with an Auto-focus and records video at 1080@30fps, while the selfie camera or the front camera is 5 MP with fixed focus.

The camera quality is good and standard and as said before nothing extraordinary but good enough to take instant photos and quality video calls.

  • Battery Life

Battery life is very strong on the Samsung Galaxy Tab A 8.4. The tab is equipped with Li-Po 5000 mAh, non-removable battery. It comes with fast charging as well. The battery easily lasts a day or 10 hrs of video recording and viewing. One charge is good enough to last the day.

Final Verdict

For a mid-range tablet, Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.4 is a good tablet. From display to features to looks, Samsung has done a good job. Not to mention the affordable pricing for a mid-range tablet, but you have to be aware that it’s a bit outdated already.

We believe it’s a good tablet and you can get it for under $200, but we would recommend taking a look at newer Samsung tablets such as Samsung Galaxy Tab A8 or a Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite (2022 Model) which has Stylus support.

Newer tablets are always better, if they are in the same price range, that’s a fact.
