Best 7-inch Tablets

Due to their size, 7-inch tablets are portable and easy to carry. They make a great device if you travel around a lot. You can use it for gaming, watching movies, browsing the web, etc.

Many parents buy 7 inch tablets to entertain their kids for an hour or two to get a little quite time.

7 inch market has gotten smaller over the years because smartphones have gotten bigger. Some have eliminated the need for 7 inch tablets by buying a bigger smartphone. But some still want to get that separate device, so I created a list of the best 7 inch tablets.

My criteria include a screen size of at least 7 inches with a decent display, a decent processor, good battery life and at least 16GB of storage.

Top Picks – Quick Overview

The iPad Mini 5 (2019 model) comes with home button, lightning port, and headphone jack.

Hands-down a great tablet. Even though it's a few years old now, it still holds its ground against other tablets. The A12 Bionic chugs through normal tasks, and the tablet can even handle gaming with no real complaints from my side.

If you want a 7-inch tablet for gaming, you won't find a better one.

It's also compatible with Apple Pencil 1 if you want to do some sketches or take quick notes.

The screen is not big enough for drawing and note-taking, in my opinion. I would recommend other tablets for that purpose, but it's still a niche thing to have.

The biggest reason why I’d recommend the iPad Mini 5 is the performance, it's definitely the most powerful 7-inch tablet, it has great camera(7MP selfie-camera and 8MP rear-camera), a great display, it runs iPadOS, it provides you with everything a tablet needs.

Lastly, but perhaps more importantly, its 1535x2048 324 ppi IPS LCD display. Compared to most other tablets in this list, it runs absolute miles over them. Plus, the fact that it supports a stylus is a big deal.

Moreover, considering Apple’s track record for ensuring their products are supported for a long period of time, I wouldn’t be surprised if the iPad Mini 5 is supported for longer than most other Android tablets I’ve mentioned over here.

On average iPad are supported 7-years while Android tablets are supported for 3-5 years.

Pros
  • Powerful processor
  • Excellent display
  • Headphone jack
  • Stylus support
  • Great camera
Cons
  • Released in 2019
  • Lightning port
  • Expensive

Firstly, the build quality is far better than what you’d expect at this price point, with an all-metal design and a relatively decent screen-to-body ratio of 76%.

You can get this tablet with WiFi+LTE or just WiFi. Truth be told, it isn’t really meant for productivity.

It can handle a few tasks: web browsing, emails, light games, videos, movies, etc. The basics.

It also has parental controls you can set up for your kids.

The biggest issue I had with this tablet, is its inclusion of a micro-USB port.

The screen is decent, the speakers are decent, and the build quality is good.

It's not perfect, but considering the price tag, it's good enough.

Pros
  • Good price
  • Built feels premium
  • Portable size/design
  • Great screen-to-body ratio
Cons
  • The camera could be better
  • Speakers could be louder
  • Micro USB

The Amazon Fire 7(2022). It's the smallest tablet on the list. Comes with a 7-inch screen and 1024x600 resolution. Has a decent SoC to handle the basic tablet tasks (MediaTek MT8168). It comes in three colors: Black, Rose and Denim. The maximum storage size is 32GB, which puts a lot of limitations on how many apps and movies you can store on it. On the upside, the tablet has a microSD card slot.

Like all Amazon tablets, it operates on the Fire OS operating system. However, if you want access to apps from the Google Play Store, a few adjustments to the tablet settings are required.

It's a decent device on which kids can play games and you can stream Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Video, Disney+, etc. You can also do online shopping, browse the web, do video calls and read Kindle books.

Pros
  • Alexa
  • Multiple Colors
  • Good Battery Life
Cons
  • Limited Apps
  • Amazon Ads
  • Low Storage

  • Weight: 1 lbs
  • Port: micro-USB

The Fire 7 Kids is almost exactly the same as the Amazon Fire 7. The only difference is that you get a removable rubber case, a year of Amazon Kids Plus and a two-year guarantee instead of the usual one that comes standard with the Fire 7.

It's a bit pricier as well. In my opinion, this is only worth it if you have a child who is really prone to breaking the tablet or really enjoys Amazon Kids Plus and what it offers. Besides that, you are better off with the base variant.

The bumper case is really good for what it is worth. It has a kickstand that you can use to place the tablet at an angle and is made up of colored plastic ranging from blue to pink to accommodate both girls and boys.

It offers great protection and will genuinely help your device if it gets thrown down and mauled a lot. Plus, the extra warranty does come in handy when your device ends up looking like it survived an assault by the fourth month.

You can also buy it in a bundle with a Stylus Pen.

Pros
  • Rugged
  • Stylus Pen
  • Good battery
  • Child-friendly
  • Multiple-Colors
  • Free Amazon Plus
  • 2-Years Warranty
Cons
  • You have to install the Google Play Store manually
  • Poor quality cameras
  • Fuzzy display

The Dragon Touch KidzPad includes a stylus. It isn't an Apple Pencil by any means. In fact, it's a generic stylus. But, it still is a welcome addition, especially because of the demographic this tablet is targeting.

The entire case is quite sturdy. And is a bit stronger than Amazon’s offering. It feels sluggish and slow if you decide to play anything other than a hyper-casual game.

To be very honest, the Amazon Fire 7 Kids and Fire 7 also suffered from the same issue, I would say these tablets are in the same performance level.

However, you do get the Google Play Store right out of the box and don’t have to dabble with any side-loading here.

All in all, an excellent pick for anyone who is looking for a 7-inch tablet for kids on a budget. Kids love the colors and the games and it just gets the job done.

Pros
  • Rugged
  • Stylus Pen
  • Child-friendly
  • Multiple-Colors
Cons
  • The menus are set to Chinese when you first start the tablet
  • Poor battery life

This 7-inch tablet is an absolute steal at its price. It comes with an included leather case and runs Android right out of the box. With a quad-core processor, it can actually handle daily tasks pretty well. But, don’t expect to be playing Genshin Impact or Call of Duty on this tablet.

At this price point you can expect the tablet to handle basic tasks: YouTube videos, light games, emails, web, movies, etc.

The case that's included in the box also has a kickstand, that comes in handy when you want to watch longer format content.

It is a barebones 7-inch tablet that gets the job done.

This tablet costs under $50 in US, so there are some bugs, it freezes up from time to time, especially when it's overheated. All things considered, I would rate the overall performance - a bit sluggish.

Pros
  • Has a memory card slot built-in
  • Costs under $50 (US)
  • Compact & portable
  • USB-C Port
Cons
  • Camera is bad
  • Sluggish

The Haenhe 7-inch tablet is meant for web browsing, a few casual games, social media, some videos, some movies, and not much more. In essence, it's meant for casual stuff.

The battery life, on average, lasts about 5-6 hours. So, you can pretty much use it for an entire day, without charging it.

The performance is something you could have expected from a tablet in this price range. It's slow but bearable. Wouldn't recommend making video calls with it. The camera quality is below average.

Overall it's a cheap 7-inch tablet with medicare performance.

Pros
  • Good battery
  • Portale
Cons
  • Camera is bad
  • Slow & sluggish

TJD 7.5

TJD 7.5

  • Camera: 2 MP + 5 MP
  • Display Size: 7.5 inches
  • Resolution: 1440×1080
  • Weight: 1.7 lbs
  • Port: Micro USB
  • Battery: 4000 mAH (Up to 3-4 hours)

The TJD Tablets 7.5 inch has one of the best displays out there in this list with a resolution of 1440x1080. The 3500 mAH battery stacks up for about 5-6 hours of usage, and the headphone jack and SD card are all welcome addendums to the tablet.

It features a Cortex-A53 Quad Core processor, which I feel performs better than most of the Kids themed tablets in this list. It's a bit faster and can handle a bit heavier apps.

The camera might not be exceptional, but it gets the job done if you want to hop on a quick video call. I would rate the quality below average.

Overall, a decent 7 inch tablet that's under $50.

Pros
  • Relatively fast
  • Portale & compact
Cons
  • A bit on the heavy side
  • Micro USB charger

This 7 inch tablet (Pritom) comes in blue and pink and costs less than $40.

It's primarily meant for kids and, therefore has a removable case that prevents kids from damaging the device in case of a drop.

It's not fast; it's slow and laggy. It's not a surprise considering the price tag on this device, but once you get the child book app on, or the movie playing or the video playing, it will be fine.

Kids' response is positive about this device. They like the colors, they like that it's rugged, and they love that it can play their favorite movies.

The tablet itself isn’t quite heavy with the case. All in all, an excellent pick for a toddler or child who’s going to be getting their first tablet.

Pros
  • Rugged
  • Child-friendly
Cons
  • Short charging cable
  • Poor battery life
  • Poor volume
  • Laggy
