There aren’t many options in the market if you need a case for your iPad Pro or iPad Air that’s also going to be compatible with Magic Keyboards, but there are some. I’ve done my research, and I have tested them out.

Below is my extended list of the best iPad cases that work with Magic Keyboards.

1. Pitaka MagEZ Case 2 – Best Overall

overall best ipad cases compatible with magic keyboard - pitaka magez case 2
  • Material – Premium luxury material with carbon fiber texture
  • Weight – 0.18lbs(82g) for 11-inch iPad and 0.25lbs(115g) for 12.9-inch iPad
  • Color – Black/grey, black/blue, overture, rhapsody, white/grey
  • Extras – Raised ridges around the camera for lens protection

Pitaka’s MagEZ Case 2 is an ultra-thin protective case with an eye-catching and minimalist design. It is fully compatible with Magic Keyboard and will keep your iPad Pro in place with exceptional magnet power. This is a case I use on a daily basis. It also works with folio cases in case you want to remove Magic Keyboards. There’s a special dent for Apple Pencil, and it connects effortlessly and has never detached for me, and I’ve been using it for several months now.

Overall a great case. I love it, it’s comfortable in your hands, and it feels like it makes your grip better in landscape mode and in portrait mode.

And for those that are wondering – yes it will also work with iPad Air.

2. SwitchEasy CoverBuddy – Editor’s Choice

editor's pick for best ipad case compatible with magic keyboard
  • Material – Microfiber and plastic
  • Weight – 0.23lbs(107g)
  • Color – Black and white
  • Extras – Pencil holder

SwitchEasy is a well-known name among Apple enthusiasts, and its protective cases are legendary. Designed for the complete protection of an iPad Pro, CoverBuddy will cover the sides and the back of your device. Furthermore, it features a pencil slot at the top that allows wireless charging. This is one feature that makes this case stand out, does it add real value? It’s debatable. My Apple Pencil has never got detached from my iPad, so that’s why I’m skeptical.

The best part of the CoverBuddy is the magnet that keeps your Magic Keyboard attached and in place. The inside of the case is covered with microfiber material, so there will be no scratches or damage to your iPad.

Compatibility:

iPad Pro 12.9” (5th & 6th Gen)
iPad Pro 11” (3rd – 4th Gen)
iPad Air 10.9” (4th – 5th Gen)

3. MOFT Snap Case for iPad Pro

moft snap case for ipad pro and magic keyboard
  • Material – Synthetic Leather
  • Weight – 0.78lbs(357g)
  • Color – Black and white
  • Extras – Pencil holder

MOFT Snap case for iPad. One of the few players decided to create an iPad case that’s compatible with Magic Keyboard. There aren’t many, trust me.

The case comes in black or white, and it’s compatible with iPad Pro (4th & 5th gen), both 12.9-inch and 11-inch, and iPad Air (4th & 5th gen). It will work with both Magic Keyboard and Smart Folio Keyboard.

Overall it’s a good case, it gives you extra protection, a better grip, and no need to worry about scratching your device. It’s equipped with soft microfiber lining, which won’t scratch your screen or the back of your device.

What I didn’t like about it was the extra weight. It’s the heaviest of the cases on the list. Other than that I liked it a lot.

Compatiblity:

iPad Pro 12.9” (5th & 6th Gen)
iPad Pro 11” (3rd – 4th Gen)
iPad Air 10.9” (4th – 5th Gen)

4. Spigen Thin Fit Pro

spigen fit case that's cimpatible with magic keyboard and has apple pencil holder
  • Material – Leather, Polycarbonate
  • Weight – 0.24lbs(111g)
  • Color – Leather Black
  • Extras – Pencil Holder, Lightweight

This fantastic case brings a combination of premium quality and functionality, all wrapped in sleek black elegance. It looks very luxury.

Spigen understands how valuable your iPad’s camera is, so they have included a raised camera lip that shields it from any unwanted bumps and scratches. Say goodbye to camera worries!

But wait, there’s more! They have also designed a built-in Apple Pencil Holder, keeping your precious Pencil secure and always charged. With a thoughtful cutout, accessing your Pencil is a breeze!

Compatibility:

iPad Pro 12.9”
iPad Pro 11”

5. STM Dux Shell Magic Folio

STM Dux Shell Magic Folio
  • Material – Thermoplastic Polyurethane
  • Weight – 0.37lbs(172g)
  • Color – Gray
  • Extras – Pencil holder

If you want to protect your Magic Keyboard and iPad, STM Dux Shell is a great choice. It does look a bit bulky at first, but that’s okay because it is clear your iPad will be fully protected. And the best part is that this iPad case is designed to withstand hard falls.

Unfortunately, STM Dux Shell comes in just one color – black. But the back panel is completely transparent so you can customize it to your liking. Of course, there is a pencil holder at the top, so you can quickly recharge your Apple Pencil.

Compatiblity:

iPad Pro 12.9” (5th & 6th Gen)
iPad Pro 11” (3rd – 4th Gen)
iPad Air 10.9” (4th – 5th Gen)

6. Halflyer Case – Budget Option

best budget ipad case that works with magic keyboard
  • Material – PU Leather
  • Weight – 0.5lbs(227g)
  • Color – Leather Black / Carbon Fiber Black
  • Extras – Pencil Holder / Carbon Fiber Option

The Halflyer Leather case is another great option if you’ve got a tight budget. It’s the same price as the Doqo case, but it’s far more stylish and sleek. There’s no intrusive logo around the case and has a sleek leather or carbon fiber finish.

And in terms of features, the Halfyer case comes with a pencil holder and clicky tactile buttons. Though we’re not huge fans of the protruding pencil holder. It stands out especially when you’re storing it together with the Magic Keyboard.

But otherwise, the Halflyer is a sleek, attractive, budget-friendly case that’s perfect for the Magic Keyboard. It isn’t the most protective since it’s a fairly thin case, but it will help absorb some shock and prevent scratches.

Compatibility:

iPad Pro 11” (1st – 4th Gen)
iPad Air 10.9” (4th – 5th Gen)

7. EISSCCE

EISSCCE case that works with magic keyboard
  • Material – PU and TPU
  • Weight – 0.4lbs(184g)
  • Color – Black / White
  • Extras – Lightweight and very thin

EISSCCE Magic Keyboard Compatible Case is a great companion for your 2020/2021/2022 iPad Air 10.9″ and 2018-2022 11″ iPad Pro! This awesome case is here to make your iPad experience even better with its magnetic attachment and Apple Pencil 2 clasp. No more worries about losing your Pencil or struggling to charge it – this case has got you covered!

Crafted with upgraded premium PU leather, this case not only looks stylish but also keeps your iPad safe from dust and scratches. And guess what? It’s super slim and snug, adding just 0.06 inches (1.5mm) to your iPad’s sleekness!

Say goodbye to worries about daily wear and tear, as this case provides three-sided protection for your precious iPad. It fits like a glove and even offers precise cutouts for easy access to all your ports and functions.

You can pick between the classic Black or the chic White color options to match your style.

Compatibility:

Black
White

8. MagEasy CitiCover

MagEasy CitiCover
  • Material – Vegan PU Leather
  • Weight – 0.7lbs(317g)
  • Color – Black / Carbon Fiber
  • Extras – Shock Absorbing Bumpers / Pencil Holder

The MagEasy CitiCover has the best of both worlds; a sleek, stylish design with dependable protection. It’s still a thin case but the secret here is the shock-absorbing bumpers on two corners.

This helps absorb any impacts when you drop or bump your iPad. It can’t really compare to dedicated protective cases like the STM Dux Shell, but it’s considerably more durable than thin cases without bumpers.

And for your Apple Pencil, there’s a convenient holder too.

There are two options to choose from, either a carbon-fiber or PU leather material. Both are equally sleek and quite the looker. It does range at a higher price similar to other premium cases, but it’s well worth the money.

Compatibility:

iPad Pro 12.9” (5th & 6th Gen)
iPad Pro 11” (3rd – 4th Gen)
iPad Air 10.9” (4th – 5th Gen)

Do you need a case for iPad if you have Magic Keyboard?

Whether or not you need a case for your iPad when using a Magic Keyboard depends on your personal preferences and the level of protection you desire for your device.

Magic Keyboard will not do much if you drop your iPad. A sturdy and high-quality case will keep both your iPad and keyboard safe.

If you mainly use your iPad with the Magic Keyboard in a controlled environment, such as at home or in an office setting, and you are confident in your ability to handle it carefully, you might feel that a case is unnecessary.

I personally didn’t like the idea of a case, though it will make my iPad bulky and uncomfortable and I felt it was just unnecessary. I was wrong. The iPad case gives you a safety net and makes the grip more comfortable when you are not using your iPad with Magic Keyboard. Is it a must? No. Should you get it to improve your safety? That’s up to you.

I don’t regret getting a case, especially if it works effortlessly together with the Magic Keyboard.

Verdict: Which Is The Best Option?

While it’s mostly a matter of personal preference, the Pitaka MagEZ Case 2 and Switch Easy CoverBuddy are the clear standouts on the list.

The SwitchEasy case ranks first because it features the Apple Pencil holder and a sleek, minimal design. The Pitaka MagEZ Case 2 misses out on the pencil holder which is a bummer considering it’s a little pricier too, but in all honestly, it’s a pointless feature if you ask me, but I’m just here to report facts.

The third option would be Halflyer Case since it’s the cheapest one on the list.

Every case on the list is a great companion for the Magic Keyboard. It’s only a matter of deciding between the designs, protection, color, and of course, price.
