Apple’s Magic Keyboard for iPad is a popular keyboard for iPad Pro or iPad Air. However, finding an iPad case that works with the Magic Keyboard can be difficult. There are very few iPad cases in the market that are also compatible simultaneously with Magic Keyboard.

Cases compatible with the Magic Keyboard will leave one side of the iPad exposed. It’s a necessary design compromise for the case to function with the Magic Keyboard and iPad.

In this article, you’re going to find the top nine iPad cases compatible with the Magic Keyboard. Each product’s standout features, available color options, weight and concise descriptions

Pitaka’s MagEZ Case 2 is an ultra-thin and lightweight case with an eye-catching and minimalist design. It works in tandem with iPad and Magic Keyboard. The case is thin, making the connection between iPad and Magic Keyboard secure.

There’s a special dent on the case for Apple Pencil. The case doesn’t affect the magnets, and you can attach your Apple Pencil to the iPad, and it holds on securely. The magnet feels as strong as there wouldn’t be a case on.

One side of the iPad is not covered, so the case can be compatible with Magic Keyboard, which is a necessity.

The case is comfortable in your hands and makes your grip more firm.

This is the main case for my iPad Pro. It also works with Pitaka folio cases.

It’s thin and lightweight, and it features an Apple Pencil holder. On the inside of the case, there’s microfiber, so it doesn’t scratch your iPad.

When I have the case attached to my iPad, and I hold it in portrait mode, the Apple Pencil protector bothers me, it affects how I hold my iPad, so I much rather prefer a case without a pencil holder slot.

STM Dux Shell Magic Folio

STM Dux Shell Magic Folio
Material:Thermoplastic Polyurethane
Colors:Gray
Weight:13.4oz – 14.4oz (379g-408g) (depending on the size)
Smart Connectors:Yes
Works with iPad and Magic Keyboard Simultaneously?Yes
Works with iPad and Smart Keyboard Folio Simultaneously?Yes

STM Dux Shell Magic Folio case is the heaviest on the list.

It’s also the most protective iPad case on the list. It looks bulky, but with that comes extra protection. It’s designed so your iPad can survive hard falls.

It’s a transparent case with gray sides. There’s also a dedicated spot for Apple Pencil at the top.

There is one problem with the case: when it’s attached to the iPad and Magic Keyboard, you can’t access the USB-C Port that’s on the Magic Keyboard. When it’s closed, there’s no chance you can access that port, but when it’s opened, you can sort of pull it to the side and access it. Inconvenient, to say the least. If you use the port on a daily basis, I would suggest another case from the list.

Weight:8.4oz (238g)

The Halflyer Leather case is the cheapest iPad case on the list. The case has two options: leather and carbon. Both look very good on the iPad.

Just like most of the cases on the list, it also has a dedicated pencil slot at the top.

It’s a sleek, attractive, budget-friendly case that works in tandem with Apple’s Magic Keyboard and iPad. In case of a drop, it will absorb some shock and prevent scratches.

The pencil holder at the top is very thin and fragile. I actually broke mine, so be careful with that.

Halflyer has only cases for iPad Pro 11 inch and iPad Air(4-5th gen). Unfortunately, there is no case for 12.9-inch iPad Pro models.

Overall, a good-looking iPad case with a good price, considering other brands.

The MagEasy CitiCover case is stylish, sleek, and works with Apple’s Magic Keyboard. The case has two shock-absorbing bumpers on two corners.

It can’t really compare to dedicated protective cases like the STM Dux Shell, but it’s considerably more durable than thin cases without bumpers.

There are two options to choose from: carbon fiber or PU leather. Both are equally sleek and quite good-looking. It does range at a higher price, similar to other premium cases.

Do you need a case for an iPad if you have The Magic Keyboard?

Magic Keyboard will not do much if you drop your iPad. A sturdy and high-quality case will keep your iPad more secure.

Suppose you mainly use your iPad with the Magic Keyboard in a controlled environment, such as at home or in an office setting, and you are confident in your ability to handle it carefully. In that case, you might feel that a case is unnecessary.

But that case might give you additional safety in case you drop your iPad.

The case, besides protection will also give you:

  • Better grip
  • Make your iPad look better.

Does the iPad Folio case work with Apple’s Magic Keyboard?

No, a Folio case will not work with the Magic Keyboard. You won’t be able to close your Magic Keyboard. Here’s me trying to attach my iPad to Magic Keyboard while I have my Folio case on:

Why iPad Cases Are So Expensive?

iPad case prices vary anywhere from $20 to $100. Depending on the brand, type, and material.

There are several iPad case types: basic case, folio case, keyboard case, and rugged case.

Why Are iPad Pro Cases That Work With Magic Keyboard So Expensive?

iPad cases that work with Magic Keyboard range from $40 to $80 due to low competition and high demand. Also, another thing that drives up the price is that the brands have to add smart connectors into the case.

pitaka magez case 2 that works with magic keyboard due to the smart connectors

There are very few brands that have created an iPad Pro/Air case that works with a magic keyboard. Due to the high demand, these brands can set higher prices.

Every year, there are more and more iPad cases that work with Magic Keyboard, so we should see some price decreases as soon as the supply catches up with the demand.

Does the iPad Pro 11-inch case also fit iPad Air?

The case designed for the iPad Pro 11-inch seamlessly fits the iPad Air despite its slightly smaller 10.9-inch display.

While their screen sizes vary slightly, the dimensions are nearly identical:

  • iPad Pro 11-inch (1st-4th gen): 9.75 x 7.03 x 0.23 in (247.6 x 178.5 x 5.9 mm)
  • iPad Air 10.9 inches (5th gen): 9.75 x 7.03 x 0.24 in (247.6 x 178.5 x 6.1 mm)

Notably, the iPad Air is only thicker by 0.01 in, a difference that has no impact on the compatibility of the cases.
